Assessment
As infants and toddlers, children begin to understand language and how to use it in order to have their needs met and to socially engage with others. Throughout their school years, children use language in their academics and social relationships. For most of us it is the primary way we interact with our world and achieve our day to day living. Difficulties in specific language skills may be impacting a child’s, adolescent’s, or young adult’s academics, social, emotional, and behavioural performance.
At Regina Speech Centre we provide comprehensive speech, language and literacy assessments. An assessment allows our speech language pathologists (SLPs) to determine your child’s strengths and needs which will guide your SLP to determine the best communication strategies and goals to focus on in therapy. In a formal speech language assessment, the SLP will assess multiple domains including, but not limited to, articulation, oral motor skills, receptive language, expressive language, fluency, voice, literacy, play skills, and more. The length of assessment depends on the child’s needs, and may take more than one session to ensure the SLP has an accurate representation of your child’s skills. An assessment is completed through various methods including open ended play, conversation, parent reports, teacher observations, and standardized assessments.
As specialists in literacy learning we also provide comprehensive assessments of reading, writing and spelling to guide tutors, schools and classrooms in setting goals to improve a student’s academic outcomes. Contact us today to book your assessment.
